Saira is an assistant Vice President and counsel at BNP Paribas where she focuses on securities services, clearing and the implementation of programs necessitated by the Dodd Frank Act. Saira graduated cum laude from Fordham University School of Law and received her B.A. in politics with high honors and psychology from New York University.
NEHAL SIDDIQUI / Vice President
Nehal is a Senior Counsel at Ernst and Young in the Contracts and Transactions practice group. Previously, Nehal was a senior associate in the Corporate group of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy where her practice focused on mergers and acquisitions and private equity transactions. Nehal received her BBA from Emory University in 2006 and her JD from the George Washington University Law School in 2009.
UMAIR KHAN / Treasurer
Umair serves as deputy counsel to New York City Public Advocate Letitia James. She also appointed him trustee of the $56 billion New York City Employees' Retirement System. Umair handles a number of litigation and policy matters including: healthcare, technology, telecommunications, and pensions.Umair is a graduate of Albany Law School, where he was an Associate Editor on the Albany Government Law Review. He received his bachelors in Government and Near Eastern Studies from Cornell University.
SAYEDA ABBAS / Secretary
Sayeda is a public interest attorney, fighting for low-income clients that cannot afford legal assistance. She is a Housing Staff Attorney at Manhattan Legal Services, and litigates to protect the rights of low-income tenants in New York City. She has been a long time advocate for justice for the poor and prior to housing, she practiced in the areas of asylum and consumer protection. She received her law degree from Brooklyn Law School and her Bachelors in the areas of Political Science, Psychology, and Spanish from Rutgers University.
ABID HOSSAIN / Director
Abid serves as an Assistant General Counsel to the New York City Council, where he provides legal advice pertaining to employment matters, among other things. Prior to joining the City Council, Abid served as an Excelsior Service Fellow at the New York State Division of Human Rights. He received his J.D. from NYU School of Law and his B.A. from Binghamton University.
SABILA KHAN / Director
Sabila is an associate at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy in the Alternative Investments practice group where she advises on a variety of transactional and regulatory matters. Previously, Sabila worked in the Corporate and Investment Banking division of an International Bank as an in-house attorney. Sabila is a graduate of Notre Dame Law School and New York University. During law school, Sabila received the Jessup International Moot Court Award for Excellence in Advocacy. She is a member of the MuBANY Women's Committee and a native New Yorker.
MERIUM MALIK / Director
Merium is an Immigration and Criminal Defense Attorney. She is very actively involved in serving the immigrant community. She has successfully conducted several immigration and criminal trials, including appeals in the second and ninth circuit courts and with the Board of Immigration Appeals. She has appeared before the EOIR Immigration Judges throughout the United States and appeared before and filed cases with USCIS.
ADEEL MANGI / Director
Adeel is a partner in the litigation department at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP, concentrating his practice in complex commercial disputes. Adeel has particular experience in false advertising, pharmaceutical pricing and class action defense. Adeel was named a "2014 Rising Star" by the New York Law Journal, which recognizes the most promising lawyers under the age of 40 who have demonstrated that they are top contributors to the practice of law and their communities.
NAUSHEEN ROKERYA / Director
Nausheen serves as Associate General Counsel, Labor & Employment at the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, the nation's largest not-for-profit home health care agency. In this capacity, she provides advice and counsel to senior leadership on a variety of labor and employment matters. She was previously an Associate in the Labor & Employment Department at Proskauer. Nausheen holds a B.S. from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University, with a concentration in Law & Society. She earned her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, where she served as co-founder and Vice President of the Muslim Law Students' Association.
SULEMAN MALIK / Social Media Chair & Webmaster
Suleman practices complex commercial litigation. He recently earned his J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he served as the Executive Editor of the Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution. He has published articles on important FINRA related issues, appeared on television, and has advocated for the Muslim community in his personal and professional capacity. Suleman graduated from Emory University, with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Minor in Theatre Studies.
